Grid Valley Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2 November 2026
Grid Valley is a strategy game for two players on one phone. It has no accounts, ads or purchases, and your matches stay on your phone. Two things can leave your phone, usage analytics and crash reports, and you can switch off each of them in Settings.
Who is responsible
Ricardo Martínez Monje is responsible for this data. To ask anything about it, write to gridvalley.thegame@gmail.com.
What stays on your phone
These are never sent anywhere by the app:
- the names you type for the players
- your boards, their moves, and your wins and losses against each player
- your settings
Deleting the app deletes them from the phone. Your phone's own backup may keep a copy if you have backups turned on.
Usage analytics
Why: to understand how the game is played and which versions are in use, so it can be improved.
What is recorded:
- each time the app is opened, with the app version and the platform
- the screens you visit: onboarding, Lobby, New match, the match, and Settings
- the onboarding steps, and whether you finished or skipped them
- when a match starts, finishes, is rematched, or is deleted, with the board size, the result, the difference in boxes, how long it took, and how many moves a deleted board had
- what Google Analytics records on its own: the first time the app is opened, sessions, screen views, time spent in the app, and app and system updates
- your phone's brand, model and type, its operating system and version, its language, and the app version and store
- a random id that Google Analytics gives this install of the app
Approximate location: the city, region and country, which Google Analytics works out from your IP address. For people in the EU, Switzerland and the UK, Google says the address is used only for that, on servers there, and then discarded without being logged.
Who processes it and where: Google Analytics for Firebase, from Google, as a data processor acting on our behalf. Google may process it in its data centres around the world, including the United States. We have turned off the settings that would let Google use this data for its own purposes. The app does not use the advertising identifier or ad personalisation.
How long it is kept: detailed data, 14 months. Google Analytics keeps totals and counts that do not single out an install, such as how many matches were played in a month, for as long as the project exists.
Crash reports
Why: to find and fix crashes.
What is sent:
- the error: where in the app's code it happened, and the state of the app when it did
- what the app was doing before it: the screens visited, by their internal name, and the actions on the board (preparing, placing or cancelling a line, or asking for a rematch), with the move number
- if usage analytics are also on, the analytics events just before the crash
- the app version and build, the platform, and the size of the last board opened
- your device model and operating system version, and technical details of the device at the time of the crash
- the install id described below, and two random ids that Crashlytics uses to count how many installs a crash affects
Who processes it and where: Firebase Crashlytics, from Google, as a data processor under the Firebase data processing terms. These terms bind Google to process the data only on our instructions and to protect it. Google may process it in its data centres around the world, including the United States. Transfers out of Europe rely on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
How long it is kept: 90 days, after which Google starts deleting it.
What is never sent
Your name, an email address, an account, the names you type for the players, the position of your moves, the name of your phone, its advertising identifier, screenshots, contacts, photos, or a location read from your phone.
Why we cannot tie this to you
There is no account, and the app never asks who you are. The ids that go with this data are random numbers created for this install of the app. They do not come from your store account, they are not shown in the app, and deleting the app ends them.
So we cannot normally tell which records are yours. Even so, we treat this information as personal data, because technical details can sometimes help identify someone when combined with other information.
We do not sell this data, use it for advertising, or combine it with data from other apps or websites.
How to switch it off
Open Settings with the gear at the top of the Lobby, and go to Privacy. Usage analytics and Crash reports are separate switches. Both are on until you turn them off, and the game works the same either way. While a switch is off, nothing of that kind leaves your phone.
Why we may process this data
Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in keeping the game working and improving it (Article 6(1)(f) of the GDPR). You can object at any time with the switches above. Giving this data is optional. No decisions about you are made automatically, and no profile of you is built.
How the data is protected
Everything travels encrypted. Only Ricardo Martínez Monje has access to the project where the analytics and the crash reports arrive.
Your rights
You can ask for access to your data, and to correct, delete, restrict or move it, and you can object to its use. Write to gridvalley.thegame@gmail.com. Because the data cannot normally be tied to you, we may be unable to find yours; if so, we will tell you. Deleting the app ends its ids, and what was collected is deleted when its period above ends.
You can also complain to your data protection authority. In Spain it is the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos.
If you write to us
If you email us, we receive your address and whatever you write, and your email provider and ours handle the message. We use it only to answer you, and we delete it when you ask or when it is no longer needed.
App stores
Apple and Google handle your download of the app under their own privacy policies.
Children
Grid Valley is a general-audience game, not aimed at children in particular. It does not ask for anyone's age, and it collects the same information whoever plays. An adult can switch off both kinds of data in Settings. If you think we hold data from a child, write to gridvalley.thegame@gmail.com.
Changes to this policy
When this policy changes, we update this page and its date. If a change affects what is collected, the release notes of that version of the app will say so.
